Mike's Life A Short Story by Reading/Writig Level 4 Writers Spring 2014

Mike’s Life

In a dark place where everything is quiet, he starts to remember all the moments that happen in his life.  He remembered the story when his mom described how his delivery was. His mother had felt that she could not breathe in the beginning of her third trimester of pregnancy. When she went to the hospital in emergency room, doctors strongly suggested that she had to deliver her baby because her diagnosis was Pre-eclampsia. Therefore, she had a surgery in the same day she arrived to the hospital.  The baby was placed in incubation, and his parents agreed to name him Mike.

“Mike, eat your food, otherwise it will be taken after 5 minutes” a jailor said. Mike did not reply. It seemed that Mike’s body was only in the prison, but his mind was in somewhere else. He is now appreciating his mother efforts when she feed him with no time obstruction. He is not only appreciating the food, he is also raising the value of everything is done by his parents. “Mom, tell Santa that I won’t accept any gift in this coming Christmas unless it is a big” Mike recalled when he was a five-year old boy. “How big is it?” his mother asked. “As a bike” Mike answered.  He really got a black cool bike from his parents, and he thought someday he would travel wherevers by this bike.

Five minutes later, the jailor had taken Mike’s food. As usual, Mike didn’t care. His memory went back to the first day of attending the primary school when he was 7 years old. Mike felt very hungry because he had forgotten his lunch that his mother made. He did not know what he could do. At that time, there was a boy who shared his food with Mike. “Dad, I want to have a best friend like your friend Bob” Mike said. “How?” his father asked. “If one shares his food with me, I will consider him my best friend.”  Mike reacted confidently.  Mike’s father explained to him how a true friendship was and how Mike could value this kind of relation. In fact, Mike did not understand, but he considered John as his best friend.

A teardrop was fallen from Mike’s eyes. Then, he went to his rigid bed trying to sleep, but he was not being able to nap. When he was closing his eyes, John was appeared in his imaginations. “How can I know that I start loving a girl?” Mike asked John. “Really, you love a girl without telling me who she is” John answered angrily. “I do not know if I love her or not, I’m just asking” Mike said. “I think you should invite her to a movie theater, and then I can tell you if you love her” John suggested. “Good idea” Mike said. Actually, the beautiful girl could not be able to hang out with Mike because her mother refused. After that, Mike had a sad feeling without even he knew until John told him that he fall in love with Sonia.

      “Sonia, I really love you” Mike in the third meeting with Sonia in the intermediate school. Sonia replied with red cheek: “the flowers are awesome”. Mike was certainly interested in Sonia life, and he thought that Sonia would be his perfect companion. Mike and Sonia had a lot of common thoughts, but unfortunately they could not be in the same school in a high school because Sonia’s family transferred to another city. The only one who continued as a friend with mike in the high school was John. When they wanted to apply to a college, they decided to apply in the same place and specialty. They indeed had been studying together for 3 years.

“Mike, finally we did it” John said with a very wide smile. In fact, the moment of college graduation was one of the happiest times in Mike’s life. He said to John, “I wish that I can return your favor”. John,” Don’t say that, we are more than brothers”.  After that conversation, Mike decided to make a surprise for John, and he planned to travel abroad for ten days. Accidentally, Mike’s plan had not worked because John’s father had an accident, and they had to stay with him. During that time, Mike suggested making a graduation party with his all friends, and John agreed to Mike’s idea. In the day of graduation party, thirty of friends celebrated and enjoyed all except two of them.

“How did I do that?” Mike blamed himself because he gave Sonia a promise when he was 15 years that he would not do a sex relation with any girl. In that case, he broke Sonia’s promise, and he felt guilty. Mike has been keeping this secret until he gets married to the girl whom he has met in the party. That was happened after two years from the graduation party. Before marriage, Mike was searching for two years for an appropriate job. He did a lot of interviews with different companies. John also was applying for same companies that Mike applied. Finally, Mike found a job in the military services.

Mike to John, “I got a job”.

“Good news” ”which company?” John replied.

“In the military services” Mike said.

“Are you kidding me? That is not your favorite work” John surprised.

“That’s only job I found” Mike.

“Good luck!” John

“You know my luck” Mike.

One year later, Mike asked John to join him in the military services because there was a good opportunity for him. John accepted that offer, and they got together again. After couple of days, Mike told John about his story with Kim who got married with her. John knew that Mike is the man of ethical concepts, so he supported him. The sequences of their life were so fast. Mike had two sons, so his responsibilities got increased. John also had a lot of responsibilities as well. In their job, there was an opportunity to travel abroad for one year if any employee wanted to be promoted financially.   

“Hi honey, guess what I have” mike says to his wife “do not open your eyes.”

Linda with aloud laugh “I do not close my eyes. I cannot see what is in your hand while they are behind you baby”.

Mike had a joyful conversation with his busy wife in the kitchen, while he was dancing and jumping around the kitchen. He had his mission ticket and he was very happy. He told his wife about that good news. In that conversation they appeared to be happy, and then he gave us a glance about their happy life.

Linda decided to make a party. She called it a farewell party. She invited mike’s best friends and including john, who would travel with hi. She invited some friends too. They spent  happy time and have fun. At the end of the party while John is about to leave, Mike says to him “please do not be late. We should be at the airport before ten o’clock” their plane is at 12 o’clock.

John came on the right time. He picked Mike up and set of their journey healing the airport. Unfortunately, there were some signs of bad luck. A crow hit the front glass of their car and the blood spread over and they cannot see the road. So, they stopped aside trying to clean it but they did not manage to do it. They decided to take a taxi instead. They almost caught their plane.

‘Finally we catch you we are lucky’   John said with laugh

Mike replies in a pessimistic tune “we do not know, we are lucky or not”  

Because of they had a ten hour journey; they sleep, after horrible scene. They waked up on the sound of pilot assistant when says “please fasten your seat belt”

They reached their destiny. They were in the presidencies’ campaign. They had ordered to engage a battle that is unexpected. They thought that they would take some rest.

At the battle, they saw horrible scene. There was blood everywhere. They saw dead bodies; Mike said “they are dead look at that hand without body, what is that?” John said” it’s meat of human body” They have seen horror itself in that battle. At the end of that, Mike loses his friend. John is killed in front of Mike’s sight. He was shot in his head meanwhile; a bomb falls on John’s body, and cuts it into pieces.

Mike cried in grief. Besides that, he sees dead innocent people. The crying injured child and the piece of John’s body are unforgettable scenes in his memory. After that situation, Mike got crazy because he missed his best friend in his life. That was the turning point in Mike’s life.

“I never participated in the battle again” Mike crying. That’s why he decided to give up and went back to his country, but that decision was not acceptable at all in the military services.

“You can kill me if you want” Mike said to his boss. “

“You are not aware about punishments you will have” Mike’s boss.

At the end, Mike gave up from participating with the military services.

Mike’s inner thoughts are sadly conflicted by many situations which happened to him. Basically, he never thought the sequences of joining the opportunity to travel with the military service will be very harmful. When he looked at the sun coming from the window, he found himself in the prison where he never thought that someday he will be in. He had thought that his life will be improved financially, but what happened was completely inversion. His life was going to down.

While Mike was waiting for small chance of being a free, he listened to the sound of keys like a bird in a cage whose door is opened. He needs freedom to make up the time he waste in the jail. He has a lot of well-arranged plans when he goes out.

“Mike, this the day of your final judge in the military court” The jailor said.

“I don’t care of nothing in this life. I just want to do one thing for John’s soul whom I miss the most” Mike pessimistically said.  Mike really does not forgive himself forever.

During Mike’s judgment, judicial officer announced that Mike would be staying five years for that punishment. When Mike was listening to the judgment, he felt mix emotions.

“Five years will be working on my future plans for you John. I promise” Mike talked to himself.

Five years later, here comes the day of freedom. The fact that Mike was waiting for a long time was awful. He wishes that he could have called John, but that is impossible. Mike directly went to John’s cemetery, and he prayed for John. In that day, he does not call his family to let them know about his return. When he arrived to his house and knocked the door like a stranger, Mike was silently crying without any tears. His daughter opened the door and shocked from a strange man. Mike hugged her daughter with a huge emotion that made Sonia, who named her as the first love girl, stopped crying.  

In the same time, he was sitting in the front his family and looking at the dinner, he recalled some memories about John’s death. He has indeed decided to change the world in order to he does not want anyone to blame himself as he does. Suddenly, an idea comes up in his mind, which is some technological advice. That advice vibrates whenever the body changes its chemical as warning for something wrong happens. Mike jumps to work in this project. He independently plans to achieve this idea.

Two years later, Mike succeeded finishing the concept of invitation of the warning a bracelet that vibrates according to increase heartbeats by Adrenaline. The disappointing points were no companies sponsored his project. Mike missed the supporting from his government. He realized that his invention would not be succeeding in his country, so he decides to travel abroad. The surprising point was the country which he travelled to appreciates his ambitious goals. Indeed, he is working in a high-position job.

Not only, he invited a bracelet device that warn whoever wears it doing wrong things, but he also decides to find a solution that can make a difference in world toward the starvation and poor countries,. There was no body agreeing on his ideas, but he still feeling persistent to achieve his goals. He thinks about earing of his project that he can build up a human organization. Finally, he did it. Mike named his project as “John project”. Basically, this project is about investing in poor countries by giving a small loan to families in those countries. In 2008, Peace Noble prize was giving to Mike. The fact that Noble Prize was given to Mike is very embarrassing for his country. In 2010, Mike’s country announced that Mike is the man of peace, and he received a lot of prizes from his country.
